I CAN'T GET BY WITHOUT..... DAY 11 of BLOGTOBERFEST

I can't get by without .........

There used to be an advert on the television and the slogan went something like .... I can't get by without my mum. Mum was a deodorant.

Well today I was thinking about what I can't get by without, and although there are a number of things ..... I most definitely couldn't get by without books. We all have those one or two things that we would find it difficult to live without in our lives.

Books are my means of escape. If things are getting to hard and I want to switch off momentarily I will grab the current book that I am reading and escape to another place and become another person. I have been known to be so engrossed in a book that when my children speak to me, I simply don't hear them. But wait, maybe that's just called selective hearing.

I am so grateful for books. I am so grateful for all that they have taught me. I have loved books since I was a little girl. They were one of the first things I loved when I started school and we had to bring books home to read every day. They called them readers, but as my English teacher said years later, "readers are people, not books".

I'm most grateful for books because they have given me an education ..... because of books and reading .... I am a literate person. I can't imagine what it would be like not to be able to read or write. So today I salute books and what they mean to me.

Now what can't you get by without ?

Chocolate! I'm a chocoholic and need my daily fix. My bible, computer, camera, and sewing machine would be at the top of the list!

I guess if you starting thinking about it ... there are probably quite a few things you couldn't get by without.

Thanks for stopping by to visit. I can't get by without a little bit of craft every day...preferably some sewing or crochet...but even reading a magazine or sorting fabric into project piles...it's very calming!
