READING AND E-READERS

READING IS ONE OF MY FAVOURITE THINGS TO DO.
I'm one of those people that like to have 2 books on the go at once, just in case I want to take a break from one book, then I can read something different. I have loved to read from a very early age and have a very eclectic taste in books. As long as it catches my interest, I'll read it. Not only that, I'll even persevere with something that's not that good .... well at least sometimes, but then I haven't found many books that I chose to read that I didn't like. Sadly I don't get the chance to read as often as I would like these days because I am so busy with work.
FOR THE LONGEST TIME NOW every time I have been past the book store in the local Plaza I go inside to have a look at the EReaders that they have and I love them. I don't go past the store all that often, but every time I do, I stop and look at them.
MY CHILDREN HAVE BEEN THREATENING NOW for years that when I die they are going to bury my books with me. In the past few months I got rid of a whole lot of old books that I didn't want or need anymore. I gave them away to the local op-shop/thrift shop. Hopefully someone else is now getting pleasure out of them. They threaten to get rid of them because I have soooo many. Mum, they say, do you need this many books. My reply is yes!!! Books are the one thing in life that bring me joy. My children tell me that the library is my second home .... for me it's a pretty good place to be.
AS A YOUNG CHILD I LOVED READING. (...and just quietly still do) I think I actually devoured books from the time that I started school. I would read more than one book a night and just loved it. As I got older I was guilty of reading in bed, with a torch, under the blankets, long after lights out. I didn't have many friends as a child and books gave me the friends I needed. They gave me places to go and fantasies to enjoy, ones that would never happen in real life...... and I adored it all.
BOOKS HAVE ENABLED ME to learn so much in life. They have helped me to be a good reader and also to be a good speller. A great teacher of mine once said that "Good readers are good spellers" and I believe whole-heartedly that he was right.
SO I AM GOING TO BUY MYSELF AN EREADER. I have chosen the Sony PRS650 after much research from a number of avenues. For me this reader offers all the features I want. I can't wait to buy it. I am saving my pennies and as soon as possible I will be getting one. There are currently none in Australia, but I have my name down on the waiting list along with everyone else. I love the pink one, but believe they are not available in Australia .... bit sad about that, because colour is important to us girls. (I have also hinted to my children that they could contribute to the cost of my ereader or books for the ereader as I have a birthday coming up very soon.... just in case they didn't know what to get me).
I WON'T HAVE TO WORRYabout carrying 2 books around with me in my bag and have them weighing me down. So now when I die, they can bury me with my EReader. It will take up far less space, be much lighter and won't weigh the coffin down .....LOL.
